Algae burger

In the mood for something surprising, nutritious, and colorful?

These green burgers with spirulina are a real eye-catcher on your plate. They have a delicious savory flavor, are rich in plant-based proteins, and perfect for those who like to experiment with natural ingredients. The combination of beans, herbs, and spirulina provides a unique twist — ideal for a light lunch or a filling meal.

What do you need?

For 4 small burgers:

  • 2.5 grams spirulina powder

  • 200 grams white or cannellini beans (drained)

  • 1 egg (or use a chia egg for the vegan version)

  • 1 cm fresh ginger

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce

  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes

  • 1 teaspoon miso paste

  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds

  • 3 tablespoons breadcrumbs

  • ½ tablespoon coconut oil

  • And of course: 4 small multigrain rolls

This is how you make it:

  1. Mix the base: Put the beans, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, miso, and chili flakes in a food processor. Grind into a coarse puree.

  2. Add the binder: Mix the egg (or chia egg), breadcrumbs, chia seeds, and spirulina into the mixture. Knead until a firm mass forms.

  3. Shape the burgers: Use your hands to make four small burgers. If the mixture is too wet, add a little extra breadcrumbs.

  4. Fry until golden brown: Heat the coconut oil in a pan and fry the burgers on both sides until golden brown in a few minutes.

  5. Serve with flair: Place the burgers on the rolls and add your favorite toppings — think slices of avocado, lettuce, cucumber, or a fresh yogurt sauce.
